Portion size
We have eaten at Black Bear Diners in Mt. Shasta, and willows and always found the food to be excellent and the portions generous for the price. However, today my husband and myself ate at the Redding location and we both ordered a hot turkey sandwich, witch we have previously ordered at other locations and when our food arrived, we were shocked, we both received one piece of bread with no more than 2 maybe 3 ounces of turkey, a scoop of potatoes with a very small latel of gravey and cranberry sauce. We didn't say anything to our server, thinking somehow we had ordered the wrong portion, but after rechecking the menu there is only one hot turkey sandwich on the menu for $7.99. I just wonder what the correct portion size is one this, and since I have over 30 years in food service I know what a portion is and I can judge right on what it weighes. We didn't complain to the server, who was a very pleasant young man and what little food we did receive was good, but come on, I guarentee we will never eat at the Redding location again and I will be telling all my friends of my experience.FYI, I also went to school with Bob Manley who started the Black Bear Franchise and I am a very unhappy camper at the moment.

only 1 bad one
I love eating at blackbear, however the Suisun store doesn't live up to the high standards of cleanliness, service and quality of all the other restaurants in the "BB" chain

What happened to you!
I eat at our Black Bear diner often and it has always been great until last night.I work hard for my money and to throw it away on the meal I had last night makes me angry. Baked potato from the night before re-heated, bottled sour blue cheese dressing and mushy fried shrimp. Old coffee! Come on! The majority of business owners frequent my place of business and told me that Black Bear has been going downhill for months now. Guess I should have listened. I want to be compensated for my horrible meal that cost $18.00. The waitress was great and since it is a small town, I didn't want to complain because I didn't want to be embarrassed in front of the other customers. Won't be going back for dinner ever.

i worked for blackbear in redmond and wow what a wake up call the general manager there treats the employees like dirt, and it was the most dishonest place i have ever worked. i think black bear needs to pull there name away from this owner!

good enuf for us simple folk!
[Aside to spelling snob: spelling errors by reviewers are most likely result of texting habits, not relevant to content.] Okay. Now. We're not dealing with the Ritz here, (so let's keep it in context)but a warm and friendly, good faith effort to provide a consistently positive eating experience for the community and travelers. Originality of theme, and staff attitude and performance, rate a 5. Food rates a 3. Therefore the rating of 4. Although we feel menu is overpriced, we prefer BBD to any other roadside eatery as we travel this beautiful country, because we trust them. And,they "got personality"! They're always homey, genuine, cheerful and truly aim to please. Breakfasts (thank heaven they're available all-day long) are best...keep working on the dinners and lunches gang! And for heavens sake, improve your website store. We're glad you're on the highways and byways, you're a huge improvement over your competition (Dennys, Elmers, etc.) See you soon.

Can't anyone spell anymore??
I am at this site trying to read a review of the Black Bear Cafe and keep getting distracted by the horrendous spelling, not to mention the bad punctuation! For crying out loud. Is this the hillbilly review site or something?? Spellings that are wrong: hamberger, resturant,
wronge, mangerment, appolagied, disapointed, manger, flaver, unifroms.

Lunch in Black Bear cafe, in Redmond, Wash.
I had lunch in Redmond today and had a California hamburger with coleslaw. The hamburger was ok but not anything special and the coleslaw didn't have anything on it. I was disapointed with it. The waitress' were all friendly and the service was good.N

great restaurant
my family and i ate at the olympia black bear diner when it first opened. it was hectic but great! we have been there several times since and have had different experiences each time. we understand that new restaurants are difficult and do not freak out like many other people if food takes over twenty minutes. friendly smiling faces make waiting for wonderful food worth it!

black bear cooks
i ate at the new black bear in olympia wa. the food was good but the cooks looked a litt5le scruffy they needed shaves and decent unifroms and to many people hanging out talking to the waitresses which were slow and .and if you wanted coffee you had to ask .i go to alot of resturant and for the food i would give you a seven on a score of ten i think with a little talk with the mangerment would cure this problem.thank you for your time mr lionel rioux at aol.com
