Blind Aid Support Has Made A Difference To University Of Zimbabwe Blind Students
Since contacting Blind Aid Africa in 2003, the welfare of visually impaired students at the University of Zimbabwe has greatly improved academically and socially. The provision of tape recorders, radio-cassette recorders, blank cassettees and headphones has aided students in their learning. Students have had a lot of books and notes recorded by volunter readers on casssettes. Recorded books have been both used by some students doing literature and for leisure. Students also have benefitted in using headphones in the computer laboratoty when using the Jaws software programme.
The chess, cards, the radios and balls have provided entertainment to students in the Deparment as a whole. The Sports Club teams have become a formidable force in the Zimbabwe Paralympic Games held every year in summer.
Students such as Tawanda Mamboto who is graduating on 13 October 2006 will for ever cherish the work of BlindAid in their lives. (We hope the fees arrears issue will not stop him from graduating.)The support of BlindAid has really made a difference in the lives of students at University of Zimbabwe.
