Very long and not very user friendly
I would not recommend this course. It literally took me almost 8 hours to complete and that is not leaving my seat. I know there are faster ones out there. I only did this one because I thought I could finish by their 4pm cut off for overnight delivery which I missed because of the length. So I paid the extra $23 for nothing. The sections are timed but you literally have to sit way longer for the timer to run out than it takes to read. The questions are reasonable and yes, it allows you to retake the question if not answered correctly. The test questions at the very are a repeat of the questions it asked throughout the course which had to be answered correctly to move on so I'm not sure why they were asked again. The videos were touching but having to sit thru the credits is a little much. I did learn a few things even though I am a experienced driver. I just think it was longer than needed. The puzzles are pointless. And I don't understand why it periodically asked for information from my vehicle VIN and other personal info since I had to enter my DL# and a password anyway. Plan on at least 8+ hours for this course! Hope this is helpful.

Easy
Background - I'm a computer engineer - self employed - 6 certs : 1 hour 8 minutes to successfully complete the course start to finish. I'm sure the course is different per state - TN there were 0 videos to watch. Questions were common sense. Did not have to read all the material to answer the questions - actually skipped the reading all together with the exception of the stories, which were a total of 3.

If you are like me, I didn't have the time to attend a class, I needed to do it this way for times sake.

University Driving
I had decided for my schedule and the cheaper cost to try to university driving. It was nothing like I expected it to be. It was a horrible experience. You have 10 sessions, 3 puzzles, and 3 stories to sit through. I'm an avid computer user. I would consider myself extremely computer saavy. I work at major computer company and hold 7 different industry certs. I can type over 80 WPM etc... I'm currently halfway done and it's taken me about 3.5-4 hours. (I would assume 8~ hours would be normal; more if you aren't computer saavy)

Each session has about 10-12 pages you have to wait 1-4 mins to be able to get to the next page. Some pages have 30 secs-15 min videos you have to watch. After every video is a question you have to answer right before proceeding. At the end of certain section (not necessarily the end) you have 5-12 questions you have to enter correctly. If you fail any of the 5-12 question you have to start over and the question banks are rather large and focus on useless details.

All in all it feels more like I'm taking a mothers against drunk driving course. Most of the messages from the videos are negative, depressing or dramatic. Not to mention this entire coure is time consuming. If you were to take the in class course you'd usually get someone halfway funny to listen to, and lunch buffet. (for 10 bucks more)

To top this all off. Everytime you start a section it asks you to verify a question from your drivers license. The choices it gave me were for my old address, which I lived at 2 years prior. I had changed my license information. So anyways. I answered witht he only logical choices. After 4 sections I get a message saying that I have to fill out an affidavit, copy my license, and get a notary public to witness me signing and fax in the document.

Long story short. Take the Defensive driving class that offers the all you can eat buffet and has a comedian, unless you absolutely want to suffer for 8-10 hours.

slow long and cumbersome and videos don't play well

drivinguniversity.com review

My background: I received a speeding ticket and that's why I had to take defensive driving. I have not had a ticket in 9 years but before that I had taken defensive driving courses numerous times. I consider myself knowledgeable of the driving laws and rules and the preliminary test that I took at this website validated that. I do not know everything and I tend to forget things like the minimum age and height where a child must use a car seat. (8yrs old 4’9”)

This course was much more difficult than I expected. This is a 6 hour course and I did not time myself but I felt that it took me 8 – 10 hours to complete. The instructed classes that I had taken only required me to pass one test. There were 12 + tests that I had to pass online and if I missed one question I had the option to review the entire section and re-take the entire test or re-take the entire test.

I think some of the web site was a little buggy. It did not prevent me from completing the course but just made it take more time. There are identity questions and one asked for my zip code but my real zip code was not a choice. I sent support an e-mail to report this but it was hard to prove since I did not capture the screen. There are crossword puzzles that you must complete and a few times the wrong field was selected where the word should be and after I missed the question it changed to the correct one.

Some questions are not very straight forward and it makes it frustrating. For example, there is a test where you must match the road signs with the description. There were 5 signs, for example one sign was a no U-turn sign. The choices were something like “prohibitory, advisory, caution, restriction” and the correct answers were not what I expected.
There was also a question that stood out that was something like “What would be your best choice of action before pulling out in front of an 18 wheeler.” The answer was “Don’t pull out in front of it, wait until it passes”. My logic told me that was not the correct answer because the question states that you would be pulling out in front of the 18 wheeler.

The course is nice because you do not have to schedule a class; you can do it at home, work or anywhere with internet access. You can take a break any time and continue later from any computer. You can work on it at 11 pm at night and support answers your e-mails. $25 is reasonable. Just keep in mind that you must really pay attention, which is good.

In summary, next time I will take an instructor lead course where I can sit back and listen and learn and not have to worry about getting stuck on a test or wasting time taking a test over and over again just to get past a section.
