Be careful of the blatant lies on the website... and the incompetent customer service
Expedia.com is simply horrible! Not only does the website contain blatant misrepresentations, its customer service is totally incompetent. I just spent an hour with a represenative that didn't even understand English. The website had stated that the it was providing an "Expedia Extra" of "No additional hotel-imposed fees at check-in or check-out" if I booked a certain hotel for a certain range of days. However, when I tried to book it, it gave me a total based on the room rates and stated that there will be additional hotel fees of $20/day added on. So, I called customer service about it, and all they told me was that the hotel fees were mandatory. So, I asked what's with this "Expedia Extra?" The customer service rep could not provide an answer. He simply repeated that the hotel fees are mandatory even though Expedia.com plainly states "Expedia Extra! - This hotel has no additional fees imposed at check-in or check-out." At one point the customer service rep tried to pretend he didn't see that written on the website. When I called him out on in (I had the website open as I was talking to him), he backtracked and again repeated, "the hotel fees are mandatory." So finally, I asked to be transferred to someone more knowledgeable about what this "Expedia Extra" is supposed to mean, he hung up on me!! Even if Expedia.com had the lowest price on the website, I'll never use it again. The people behind it seem to have no integrity and do not appear to treat their customers with even a hint of honesty or decency. Never again!!

Horrible Customer Service
The customer service of Expedia is terrible! If you run into problems they will not help you at all. After 5 hours on the phone talking to 5 different people, all I got was the phone number for the airline's customer service people! I have traveled using Expedia several times before. This was the 1st time I needed to use their 1-800 number. My flight was canceled due to weather. I called their number to find a solution. The agent on the other end told me that they would cancel my ticket if I found another flight. I found another flight and called back. After waiting on hold with the agent for 2 hours, I was told that, because of the inclement weather, I needed to call back the next day before noon. I double checked to make sure that this would not be too late to cancel, but was assured that it would be fine. However, the next morning when I called at 6 am, I was told that it was too late and that my original flight had been re scheduled. I was on the phone with the person for 1/2 an hour explaining things before my new flight took off and I had to hang up. Once I was back in cell service, I called the number again. This time I was told their system was down and that I would have to call them back in 2 hours. When I called them back I was on the phone again for another 2 hours until I was finally told that at no time could they have canceled the flight and that I should have contacted the airline directly right away! When I pointed out that I had talked to 4 other people and none of them communicated this to me, I was told that they were sincerely sorry and that the people would be dealt with, but that there was still nothing they could do for me! I will never use Expedia for another flight. With all of the options out there, you can do better than this site.

Changed ticket price after booking
I used Expedia for many years and everything was more or less ok. There prices were rather competitive (not always though). They stored mine and my family members’ info, so it helped to expedite the booking. Several times prices jumped when I tried to book a flight but it used to happen during the booking process before I hit the "Buy" button and I had a choice either to go with a higher price or just drop the whole thing. But yesterday I had a really bad experience. A day before I booked a flight for $922 and received email with travel confirmation from Expedia that included a receipt for that amount. When the next day I went to the Expedia site to print out my itinerary I was astounded to see that the booking price was $1172 ($250 increase). When I contacted their customer service they gave me some strange explanation that included something about the airline, the ticket pricing, etc. What they failed to explain to me is how can I rely on their advertized prices that make my decision to buy from them if they can change prices after booking. Very bad and unacceptable business practice.

vacation of a lifetime!
stayed for one glorious week @ grande st.lucian sandals resort jan/10. the food was second to none, the people were all soo friendly and helpful, & the service was immpecable. We rented a rondoval suite for our stay w/ butler service, plunge pool&whirlpool, it was to die for!! We recommend the helicopter ride from the airport, as you see the whole island from the sky &your at the resort in no time kicking back. There is lots to do & see-the sunsets being truly amazing!! the natives living on the island have a saying "no pressure-no problem" and that is just how you feel when your at the Sandals Grande in st. lucia. We hope we are lucky enough to return someday.

Shilo Inn welcomes weary travelers
i'm writing this letter to inform you as to how i was treated at your holiday inn express hotel in moses lake wa. i am also putting this on the internet for Shilo Inn in appreciation for their service and friendliness towards me.
first, some background.
i'm in the process of moving from NW WA to central Montana. this incident happened on march 28th, friday 2008, around 3:00pm.
i arrived at moses lake after leaving montana at 6:30am that day. i had dealt with two snow storms and a third just started. Snoqualmie Pass was closed due to accidents. so when i arrived at moses lake, i had had enough snow and icy roads for the day. i looked around for a nice hotel so i could "pamper" myself. i pulled into the holiday inn express hoping to find a room.
i walked in looking as a person would after battling the weather all day-weary,tired and just plain exhausted. i asked about a room. the man behind the counter informed me that the rooms there were very expensive. he suggested that i should go to one of your other hotels or that i should go across the street, i would get a "better deal for my dollar".
this remark caught me totally off guard. i asked if he could give me the number or call another hotel for me before i left to make sure there was a room available and he said, "i don't have their number, we're not affiliated". so i left.
i felt insulted and extremly embarassed by your employees remarks. how does he know what i can or cannot afford or was i just not presentable enough to walk through your doors? i wouldn't have choosen your hotel if i could not have afforded it.
i went over to Shilo Inn and was greeted very warmly. they accommodated me with a king size bed and very comfortable room on the main floor as i couldn't climb the stairs, due to injured kness, to the room she was going to assign me.
the next morning when i was checking out, i was handed a card and she inquired on my stay with them. that's when i told her about what had happened to me at the holiday inn express. she was shocked. inside the envelope was a thankyou card and appreciation plus a discount coupon to be used at their hotel. a couple of days after i got home i recieved from Shilo Inn a thankyou letter and some brochures showing where other Shilo Inn's are located.
even the person at the missoula mt Days Inn was very cordial to me during this trip. i had stopped there before and he remembered me and asked if i liked the room i had before and i said yes. he gave me the same room-a nice king size bed-and at the same price as before.
so this is just to let you know that in the future, i will not be staying at any of your holiday in express hotels or affiliates and i will make sure to inform my friends likewise if this is th kind of reception you give your clientel.
just a thought, don't judge people by their outwardly appearance because you never know what they can afford.
i can't thank Shilo Inn enough for taking me in and making me feel welcome and comfortable. i've also recieved a call from the director of corporate sales for Shilo Inn letting me know that if i ever need assistance to call her personally and again thanking me for staying with them.
THANKYOU SHILO INN, i WILL be back!

Expedia is a Scam
I booked a hotel room for my birthday weekend through Expedia.com. When my bday came circumstances made me unable to go, I instantly called the hotel and cancelled out my reservation expecting a refund. Today I wrote an email to expedias customer service who said they had no record of me cancelling out my stay at the hotel. Expedia is a scam and I wish I would have read these comments before I booked the hotel I am now out of 150.00 for a room I never slept in.

Dishonest website and Rude Staff
I have just got back from a fab holiday in Dubai booked via Expedia. However Expedia caused me so much stress before the trip i will never ever use them again. My husband and I went with another couple who were pregnant. We all booked to stay at the JW Marriot in Dubai because according to Expedia there was a easter package deal going on which meant we would get upgraded from a double room to a suite. However when we recieved iternary there was no upgrade. We took a screen shot and contacted expedia explaining our concern that the iternary was wrong. Straight away they took the offer off tyheir webiste and said they had made a mistake and depending on when and who we spoke to we got different stories about whether they would honour the offer considering they had made the mistake. After 15 calls, stress for all of us including our pregnant friend, Expedia staff being rude enough to hang up on us Expedia failed to honour the offer. WHen however we arrived in Dubai the hotel did upgrade us as they knew how much stress had gone on! The hotel were fantastic about it all, Expedia were a nightmare. I vow never ever ever to use Expedia again. They have dishonest marketing techniques and completely incompetent staff. Don't make the same mistake we did !
