Installation of Interlockkit in electric panel
My wife has chastised me for years on not making it easier to connect our generator to our home for power outages. I recently retired after 32+ years of service from working as a Customer Service Specialist for a power utility. This week I bought and installed the InterLockKit K-5010 on my Square D 200 amp residential electrical panel. The instructions were easy to understand and the kit was easy to install. I would highly recommend this mechanical transfer switch kit to anyone that has a generator for power outages. You must also purchase a generator backfeed breaker to match the ampacity of your generator. In my case the generator is rated for 30 amps at 240 volts. It is much cheaper than installing a dedicated electrical transfer switch. This kit should be installed by a capable electrician or someone with good mechanical abilities and a very good knowledge of electricity. You need to be able to kill the power to your electrical panel or have your utility turn the power off for the installation.

My only change in the instructions would be to have 2 small metal clamps handy. The metal plate that bolts to the cover of your breaker panel has double faced tape on the back. This tape is great for aligning the plate however it is not adequate for drilling the mounting holes. I aligned the plate and marked the 3 mounting holes. I then removed the plate and took the double faced tape off the rear of the plate. I then line the plate up with the hole markings and clampled the plate in place. This made it much eaiser to use the plate as a guide to drill the mounting holes through the breaker panel cover. Just be sure the bottom of the plate is at the top of the breaker opening the backfeed breaker will mount in. Great Product!
