 Molly Maids--Sorry Maids
This was my first and last experience with them. I wrote a letter to Molly Maids last week and have yet to hear from them:
I contacted Molly Maid Service in late February to come to my house on March 3, 2011 to do some cleaning at my house. The maids were supposed to be here sometime between 1 and 2 pm. I got a call the day before reminding me that they would be here on the third of the month and I told whoever called that I hadn’t forgotten they’d be here between 1 and 2 pm. The lady I spoke to said that she thought it was around 12:00 to 12:30 so I was agreeable to that.
On Thursday, March 3, I began waiting for them to get here around 12:30. There was no sign of anyone. Finally, around 1:00 pm I called the service and they were surprised the maids weren’t here and called the job they were working on and I was called back and told that it would probably be another 45 minutes before they got here. So, I had no choice but to wait longer. Finally, they showed up at 2:30, over two hours late, which isn’t a good beginning nor a good sign of things to come.
The women started setting up right away. I had been told to have a list of things for them to do and I had had plenty of time to get it ready and have it sitting out for them.
First, they started out on my boy’s bathroom and he mainly wanted the sink and bathtub areas cleaned and also the floorboard area. I checked later and the sink looked fine. The bathtub had some cleaning solution residue left on it, which wasn’t a big deal but the brown area around the drain had not been cleaned so the tub cleaning part looked shoddy.
The women were supposed to work mainly in the kitchen and since I’m going to be moving within the next few months, I wanted them to pull out boxes and envelopes of food in some of the cupboards so I could go through them which they did with no problem.
Next, on the list they were supposed to clean off all shelves in the kitchen and the inside and outside of cupboards which they didn’t do. (they only cleaned off the shelves of about four cupboards, and even then it was just the shelves) I came through periodically and they’d ask me what areas they were supposed to be cleaning and as I’d watch them I’d have to show them parts that they hadn’t done in cleaning out the cupboards. According to my list they were supposed to clean the windows in my kitchen and the glass on cupboards both of which they didn’t do. The outside of all the cupboards looked the same as when they left, I didn’t notice the inside of any doors being cleaned.
The lady who was in charge cleaned the oven like I requested and she did a pretty good job of that.
I had on the list that the fridge had a few spill areas inside that needed to be cleaned and that they should wipe off the outside of the fridge, both of which they didn’t do.
I asked that they mop the kitchen floor which they didn’t do. I was working in the next room and heard a vacuum running. When they left I saw some dirt stuck to the floor and I know for sure that they didn’t wash the floor because there is always the smell of detergent when that is done and there was no smell of any floor detergent used.
If they had any questions I told them I’d be in the room next door and gave them my cell phone number if they couldn’t find me so there was no excuse for confusion.
I had paid for three hours of work and that should have been plenty of time for three women to have done at least most of the work in my kitchen.
My dad, who has Alzheimer’s had probably joked that they should do his room next so the lady told me that he wanted it done and they were going to go to his room to dust. There was still work to be done on the kitchen, however and thirty minutes of cleaning time left that I’d paid for. When the lady in charge (I forget her name) came back to me after about fifteen minutes I told her what I needed to have done and she said that they had to leave because two of the girls were sick. I wasn’t told to check over what they’d done at that point, I was just told that they had to go and that I’d be reimbursed for the fifteen minutes that they’d left early.
When I went back later to check and see what they did manage to accomplish the only areas on the counter that they’d wiped was the areas of the counter that didn’t have items on it. They didn’t move things or stack things in an area so that they could clean off the entire counter area.
When they’d left, it really didn’t look like they’d done that much and I had to search to see what they’d done.
I didn’t realize that I’d have to stay in the same room with them and show them that in order to clean off counters you have to move the things on the counters and that you have to clean the whole area and not just part of it. I did come in periodically and answer questions but the whole episode of having them down was equivalent to having some twelve year olds cleaning my kitchen with me standing over them constantly.
I’m not saying I had problems with the women themselves, they were very nice. The main lady had a phone or some device that kept going off all the time. I was talking to her and it kept ringing. She didn’t shut it off and it kept ringing.
There was some language barrier which was irritating and didn’t help the situation. I know we’re not supposed to look at nationality as an issue but it seems like I always spend more time trying to explain to these people what I’m trying to say.
I had hoped that the next day or so after the ladies left that I would have gotten a phone call or mail from the maid service asking me if I was pleased with the job that they’d done. If I’d had to pay after they were through I know I wouldn’t have paid $210. The job they did wasn’t worth it—paying $100 would have been a stretch for what I got out of my money. I finally realized that I wasn’t going to be contacted by your service and that shows me that your service wasn’t interested in the opinion of what might have been a new customer so I’m writing this unsolicited opinion.
End of Letter--they were recommended by a realtor but somehow i doubt that she really even used them.
I noticed when I went to the Charlotte, NC website for Molly Maids that there was a 24 hour guarantee, nobody mentioned that to me when I called. How was i supposed to know that? I just went to the website to get their phone number initially. It's too bad I didn't check on them more before they came, if I had come to this review area for them I certainly never would have hired them and I'd be $196 richer. They did refund me fifteen minutes on my bank account, which meant I got $18 put back in the account, i did the math and it didn't look right.
Well, good luck to anyone who ignores these reviews. PS I have yet to hear from Molly Maids, if I do, I'll come back here
