Argos is a UK based retail store where products are selected either from a catalogue in store or on their website. Then it can be reserved for collection by the customer, delivered to your home or ordered and collected both in store.

I have found it a quick and convenient way to shop, I don’t recommend standing around browsing the catalogues in store... that can be a bit grim. Much better to use the website to find and reserve - even selecting which store to collect from all online.

Quite frankly the less time spent in the actual stores the better! The automated machines are a God send so you don’t have to wait in line with all the ‘mouth breathers’ & misbehaving kids (particularly an a Saturday - if you can help it at all - DON’T go in there on a Saturday!) and pay-and-collect all the sooner.

NOTE: If you’re foolish enough to buy jewelry from Argos - collect it from the jewelry counter, don’t wait at the main ‘ABCD’ counters, jewelry doesn’t appear there!

Pros: Reserving items and choosing the store to collect from online. Quick pay machines so you don’t queue for the till. Competitive pricing.

Cons: If your purchase doesn’t qualify for free delivery you still have to queue with the great unwashed to collect your purchased item.

Over the years I have occasionally bought items from Firebox and I’ve always had fast delivery with excellent customer service. One of the best features on their site is that customers can leave their own reviews, photos and even videos of the products bought from the site and I recommend reading them before you buy. Some people ask questions about the products in these review areas and Firebox will often answer them!

I have 2 brothers so when it comes to Xmas and buying ‘boys toys’ and gadget gifts Firebox is my one-stop-shop. But be warned when Xmas shopping, get in early as the popular items go out of stock closer to Xmas!

I used to use Limewire on my old Mac laptop. I found it to be temperamental, glitchy and crashed quite a bit. Many people have told me its a surefire way to get a virus... if you’re a PC user.

I switched to using Xtorrent Pro for Mac, its far more stable and hasn’t caused any problems for the several years I’ve been using it.

I used Blogger for a couple of years back when I was keeping an online diary of self development. A few of my friends were doing the same thing and we had links to each others blogs on our home pages.

This was quite a cool thing as I had set my blog so it wasn’t searchable by random people, it was after all an open diary filled with my personal thoughts and experiences. But specific friends could read it and pass on advice and encouragement.

I often added photographs and video to my blog posts and found this very easy and quick to do, you can do the video thing in several ways including embedding links from YouTube.

Overall I found Blogger to be a very useful and easy to use website, it still amazes me that it is free!

I’ve been on Facebook for years and just see it as another communication tool, much like my mobile phone. Although I am not allowed to use Facebook at work, as is the case with an increasing number of companies, I can log onto my hotmail and see any messages or updates my friends have been involved in.

Just started using the new Groups facility to organise specific groups of friends. It is what you make of it, sometimes I just close up my browser window so I can’t see all the annoying ads down the right hand side!

I’ve found I can update my status by sending a text to my Twitter account which is set to automatically update my Facebook status... and any replies can be seen in my hotmail... take THAT company ban! :-D
