I had a horrible experience at a local Canadian Tire franchise. I was shopping with my 4 year old and bought some items. Some of the items were bulky and I needed to take a shopping cart to the parking lot. There are metal posts that are set up in front of the store so to not let people take the carts out. I asked if they could remove the posts and I was told no. My options were to leave my 3 and a half year old and let him watch the merchandise (I don't think so) or run to car hoping what I just bought would stay there and drive to the front of the store and load. I obviously had to do the mad dash to the truck trying to keep my eye on the merchandise. Last time I checked Canadian Tire sold a lot of bulky items. How impractical can they be, can you imagine my nerve trying to shop on the weekend with my son, how dare I do that? Moving along, out of the various items I bought, the 2 main items were a an electrical pump to inflate pools, toys etc... as well as a "hose roller". I opened the pump only to discover the adapter shown on the picture was not in the box. I then went to put together the hose roller and that was defective. I had nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon except run back to Canadian Tire. All I wanted was my money back at this point. I had totally lost confidence in the quality of the merchandise and the retailer itself. When I went to return the items and get my money back I was told that that would be impossible. After being told that it was my fault that the adapter was not in the box " I should have opened the box to check before", I asked for an exchange on this item. So this problem was taken care of, however I did not want the hose roller they had and I did not want to be bothered to go back in the store and choose another model that would be more expensive. I just wanted my money back. I was told that they could not do that. I asked for a store credit or gift certificate so I could come back at a later time to choose something else. I was told this was not possible. So ended up taking hockey tape, umbrella, and a candle totaling the amount of the hose roller, after all those items can not be screwed up. I called customer service and was told that store manager has the discretion to refund the money and they stood by his decision. I feel like I got totally hosed (no pun intended) in this. I learned not deal with Canadian Tire and from now own I will spend my money elsewhere. Too bad since the "Canadian" retailer was on its way back up. Too bad they don't respect their customers.lesson learned, thank you CT
