My fiancee and I were SO excited to get Hughes Net because we have lived in our rural locale for about 5 years and have been on dial up. The tech came, and was very kind, but when he was finished installing the whole thing, he informed us of the "fair trade agreement."

For those of you who are not familiar--BEWARE. This agreement means that if you have a home account, that you can only download 200MB worth of stuff a day. No big deal? THINK AGAIN. Want to watch a video on U Tube? Well that counts as downloading! Want to download a movie from iTunes--think again buddy because if you go "over" your allotted amount of MB, your internet clams up on you and you are back to surfing speeds of dial-up, that is, if you are lucky enough to have any internet at all. This whole "fair trade agreement" does appear very criptically on the website, if you do some serious digging. But I also spent about 45 min on the phone with a customer service rep, and stated several times that I wanted to download things faster, and that was why we were purchasing the system in the first place, yet she failed to mention the "fair trade agreement." Had we been aware of this agreement, we would have never purchased the system.

The silver lining? Well, I guess you could call it that. We can return everything as part of the 30 day money back guarantee, but we're out the $100 installation fee, and we have to ship this monster of a satellite back at our own cost. So basically, we paid this company to screw us.

If you're out in the country, my suggestion is that you just wait it out until cable internet is available. Whatever you do, DO NOT get Hughes Net.
