I ordered bedroom furniture from Martens and was assured that, although it was on back-order, it would be delivered "within 6 weeks - six weeks at the latest". When I had not heard from them near the end of the 6-week mark, I called and was told that it would be another two weeks. I was not happy, as I had arranged to give my existing furniture away and would now be without furniture until the delivery. I was also not thrilled that I had to call them, rather than them giving me a heads-up about this. Two weeks later, I received a message from them. As I was on my way out of town, I asked my sister, who would be house-sitting, to call and arrange for delivery. She called and was told that it would be another two weeks, a message that she relayed to me. The delivery would now be a full month behind schedule. Martens did not offer me any kind of compensation - i.e. discounting the bedroom set, which they had since discounted in-store. They simply kept telling my sister that "it was not [their] fault", as they could not control shipping.
In the interim, I had recommended that family and friends buy their furniture from Martens and had brought them a fair amount of business. Now I am without bedroom furniture and can only HOPE that, when I return home in a week, there will be something for me to sleep on. Poor customer service - they made promises that they could not keep in the name of a sale.
