We thought the same thing..."Ill try Xoom and maybe end up saving a few bucks over western union or money gram." WRONG WRONG WRONG. After literally 2 hrs of trying to setup the account and about 3 calls to customer service, we sent money. It told us the transaction was completed. So we wrote to our recipients that the money was sent. Then 15mins later, we get emails that all the transactions were cancelled for some mysterious reason. So after they canceled our transactions, they never told us why. They require you to write in to them at ( cancellation_appeals AT xoom.com ) just to find out.
There are alot of hidden rules that apply and its not worth the stress and time involved spending your time and effort, in hopes to save $4 dollars off western union, and also helping the venture capitalists who funded this crappy San Francisco startup, a ROI.
GO elsewhere. Pay the extra $5 is the amount is little and send it with Western Union or Money Gram. It will save you a headache and stress. Or you can use Paypal and send it as a "Personal" and then "Gift" transaction. I sent close to $5000 to someone in the UK for just 1% fee. Better then the rest ESPECIALLY XOOM.com SUCKS. Xoom away we say.
